My mom's everyday sooji halwa (or suji halwa) never had nuts in it. She didn't even add cardamom powder. Semolina, when made sweet, is called sheera. Several variants of this dish are available under other names in various parts of India.

Steps to make Suji ka Halwa:
  1. Take one kadhai. Add Ghee add Suji. Keep the flame low medium.
  2. Keep stirring constantly. It will take about 15 to 20 mins.
  3. Keep water for boiling.
  4. When suji turns pinkish in colour add boiling water. In my house everyone prefers light brown colour of Halwa. Stir continuously.
  5. Stir till it leaves oil.
  6. Now add sugar and let sugar leaves water and. It gets absorbed. Add elachi powder.
  7. How to know ur Halwa is perfect is ur kadhai and ladle both will become clean.
  8. Halwa is ready to be serve.. u can serve with puris.

For instance, in Maharashtra, it is called sheera which is the sweet version and in North India it is called sooji (suji) halwa or Mohan bhog. the recipe for suji ka halwa is very similar with the texture to popular rava kesari. however the recipe procedure and taste are completely different and more importantly the purpose is completely different.
